I have a commercial pesticide license and also farm part-time. Do I need a private applicator permit also?
Usually, yes. The commercial license most likely is in the name of a business. You need a private applicator permit in your name to purchase and apply restricted-use pesticides to your property. Although you need both, you only need to maintain the CCH's for your commercial license. You will not have to attend programs for both the commercial and private. On your private applicator renewal form, make note that you are renewing it on basis of your commercial license, CA#. For specific questions call the Office of the Indiana State Chemist, 765/494-6271.

How does a private applicator maintain the fumigation rider on his permit?
When the private applicator permit is renewed the fumigation rider will be renewed also. If a private applicator wants to add the fumigation permit an exam can be taken at one of the regional exam sites or at Purdue University campus. Extension educators do not give the fumigation exam.

How does an out-of-state private applicator obtain a reciprocal permit for Indiana?
The actual process will remain the same. The private applicator must go to the extension office in the county where pesticides will be applied. The private applicator will show the extension educator their valid permit from their resident state, complete a permit application in the presence of the educator, and submit the form and $20 to the OISC. The reciprocal form will have the same expiration as their resident state permit. Out-of-state farmers are not required to attend the pesticide recertification programs.

How does an Indiana private applicator get a reciprocal permit in another state?
For private applicators, Indiana has reciprocal agreements with Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and Kentucky. Generally the State Department of Agriculture will need to be contacted. Refer to the reciprocal permit site for more information.
