Pesticide Core Exam
The Pesticide Core exam is required of:
1. First-time private pesticide applicators .
2. Any private applicator that does not attend three pesticide recertification
programs by the permit expiration date (five years to complete).
The Pesticide Core exam has 90 multiple choice
questions taken from the pesticide applicator core
manual. The
exam takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
The Pesticide Core exam will be offered regionally in
the state and at the exam-only dates held
monthly on the Purdue University West Lafayette campus. Extension
educators do not give the Pesticide Core exam.
Everyone taking an exam at any
of the locations must show a government issued photo ID.

There is no fee for the Pesticide Core exam. OISC
will grade the exams. Those who pass the exam will be sent a private
applicator permit form and a request for $20. After receiving the
completed form and fee, OISC will issue the private applicator permit.
Category 14 Manure Applicator Exam
Any person applying manure from a Confined Feeding Operation (CFO) on property they own or manage must be certified as a private applicator in Category 14. This includes manure from a CFO-size facilities from out-of-state. An exception is made for people that apply less than 10 cubic yards or 4,000 gallons of manure in a year. Farmers that apply commercial fertilizer to their own acres are not required to be certified.
The Category 14 Exam consists of 70 multiple choice questions taken from the Category 14 Agricultural Fertilizer Materials study manual. A person is allotted 90 minutes to complete the exam.
The Category 14 certification exam can be taken at regionally at scheduled dates and at the exam-only sessions held monthly at Purdue University West Lafayette campus.

After passing the exam, if the person also holds a pesticide permit there is no charge. The Category 14 will be added, and a new card issued. If this is the only certification obtained from the Office of the Indiana State Chemist, a $20 fee will be charged.

Anyone wishing to obtain a private pesticide applicator permit for
the first time has the option of attending pesticide core training
and taking the exam at Purdue University. The training and exam
require registration and a fee.

Remote Testing
There is an option of taking the pesticide
or fertilizer applicator exams, via computer. Host
